Ingo Berghammer from MBI is pleased with your success with the pump. He mentions in the video that the pump should run slower. Then he asks the group which size would be better.

Michael

I'm no expert on these matters, but wouldn't the size be the same scale/ratio as the full size engines are to their associated pumps of the day?. Just from a aesthetic perspective and hooking it up to other model engines, twice the size might be a bit large? Maybe if it was 1/2 as big again?

Best regards

Sanjay

The No 8 looks to easily be coping with that size pump.

A 50% increase in pump size should see a No9 engine easily cope with the load as that is 50% larger than the No8

A 100% increase or double the size to 200mm long would take you upto No1 as that is double the bore of a No8 but could probably also be run by a harder working No9 or No4

Belt/pully ratio will also come into play as going smaller on the engine diameter flywheel or pulley will give the engine more mechanical advantage as well as slowing the pump.

The other problem is cost double he siz eand you are looking at eight times the material which will not just see the cost double from what is already a reasonably expensive item.

I see we're having a 'pump off'  ;)

Yes, it wasn't cheap, on the plus side it a was good quality item, none of the castings had any problems and machined beautifully. Ingo in fact offered me help if I had any issues with the build when I first purchased it. With the postage included it came to €279. I like the fact there are still people like Ingo making castings at home and selling them when so many of the others have gone out of business, sadly the price due to the materials (and energy costs) are quite high

I greatly admire the guys on MEM that do their own castings, it seems like a dark art to the uninitiated!

Step away for a day or two and the pump is done! That was fast. Great to see it all together and pumping, Sanjay
