My first aluminum casting
« on: December 24, 2025, 03:18:35 AM »
This was the first pattern and aluminum casting I made.
I guess this was early 2012.

I started to make a myfordboy-style pattern years ago, but I had no pattern making experience, and had never cast any metal either.
This spoke/half pattern was the first thing I had ever cast, and while it is useless, I have it on the shelf and keep it as a reminder of where I started.
You can make a pretty decent flywheel with this method, and one that is realatively easy.

This is the myfordboy method:

My first casting.
A very crude attempt using an open-faced mold, but exciting to actually pour metal for the first time.
