Ford model T transmission 1/3 scale fully functional
« on: December 07, 2025, 01:50:03 pm »
After printing out the complete model T engine in 1/4 scale I thought it would be neat to make just the functional transmission. Working with the dimensions I calculated that 1/3 scale would be as small as it could be made and still have the thin pieces be strong enough to operate without breaking.
I spent a lot of time online gathering pictures, dimensions and information then started modeling the parts on Solidworks. The results are what you see here.

That is a very interesting model for sure. That would make a wonderful display at a show.

Great model!

A few months ago Jay Leno was showing someone how to drive a Model T which seemed fiendishly difficult compared to modern cars. With your model it starts to make a bit more sense since you can see what's going on inside the transmission.

Years ago when I  visited the Henry Ford museum I took rides in thier model Ts, was fascinating  talking with the drivers about the controls and the different  techniques.

Way to go George. I saw it come up on my YouTube subscription list. That must have been quite the research undertaking. Now was this more for personal curiosity and shared enjoyment? Or maybe a dry run for something in metal?

Actually a dry run for an all metal version. Just wanted to prove out all the operations and fits.

Splendid  :praise2:  :praise2:

Thank you for the excellent demonstration   I was aware that the Model T transmission was controlled by three pedals and it had a hand throttle but I had never looked at the details.
Best regards

Roger
