      My shop gnomes mentioned they heard your shop elves ordered an Ali Express fusion reactor Chris - maybe they tossed it in the Lombard firebox already? (might be a good idea to test it AFTER the ship and astronauts are back on Earth....)
GULP!  I thought that was a new night light glowing in the back room....   :paranoia:

The last couple few (now that I check dates on the previous picture of it) weeks I have been cleaning out and rearranging the basement, which is where my woodcarving station is, so I have not had a chance to do any more on the mooshead carving. That is all pretty much done, just taking loads of scrap lumber out a load at a time for the trash collection. This afternoon finally got some time to refine the face of the moose, started out at the lips/nose and worked my way back to the eyes and around the head. Different shape burs with the Foredom flex shaft machine for each area, smaller ones around the lips and eyes, larger shapes for the rest of the face and neck. Here is where its at now:

Looking a lot more moose-y now! Still a bit more fine detailing to go, and it will be ready for woodburning in the fur. Still need to carve the antlers, they will get attached last so there is plenty of angles to access it for the woodburning pens.

I'll have to sneak him it to the shop elve's bunkroom and have him looming over them when they wake up...   :LittleDevil:

I was wondering if he lost his antlers in a moose competition or something!

Hmmm, need a good story for the missing (for now) antlers... Lets see, was out drinking with the shop elves, stood up too fast, and caught them in the ceiling fan!

The Erie eccentric straps have been bored out and thinned to size,

and have started on the last set, for the Thew:

After they are bored out, I can start shaping the caps...

That's a good looking moose.

At our old shop, the owner hung up the moose antlers he'd got from a hunting trip while working in Alaska.  A co-worker went hunting and came home with a doe.  So I made him a trophy mount (piece of suede leather tacked onto a slab of wood, whole thing measuring maybe 3x5 inches) for chuckles.

Thanks!  I may have to do a carving of Rocket J Squirrel to set on the antlers...   :)

Today has been Cap Day, shaping the caps for the eccentric straps...

So far 3 of the 4 pairs are shaped...
