A small brass horizontal engine
Sanjay F:
Whilst waiting for the vacuum engine to cool down and burst into life I made a start on this engine. It has no eccentric strap or sheave, no valve rod or eccentric rod, the governor is missing and someone has stuck a marine flywheel on the other end of the crankshaft (nice freebie for another restoration)
So far I have removed the marine flywheel and made a little brass pulley it which looks more in keeping. The governor has a long shaft which turns through 90 degs to operate the butterfly valve. I thought I'd make my own governor as whats needed is so small, finding one is not an option. I sketched out and machined the top and bottom yokes and now need to make the connecting linkages. I'm not holding out any hope of the governor controlling the inlet, but it would be nice to complete the engine and see the mechansim moving

That post supporting your new parts has a fine bit of ornate turning around the central boss, almost looks at odds with the rest of the engine.
Sanjay F:
Agree; if you look at the shape of frame holding the governor wheel its the same flattened ellipse shape as the crosshead guide supports .....maybe some stuck that piece that onto a fancy looking post?
Sanjay F:
Made the arms to hold the balls, now need to make the cross members
Michael S.:
👍beautiful brass balls.
