Petters Pump

Time for a new project. I saw a project on Smokstak where a guy was restoring a Petters Pump, and I just couldn't wanting to build a model of it. The project was mostly dis assembled, and I'm not sure all of the parts were there. Additionally, I was unable to see the cylinder and valving internals from the pictures. Additionally, I don't have access to the actual pump, so I had to print out the pictures and scale the design from that. So this will not be a scale model, but a close approximation with a little artistic license.
I'm at the point where I have most of the parts modeled in Solidworks, and have built an assembly and have done checking for the parts fitting properly. There are still details to address, mostly with the valving, so it continues.

This will be an excellent companion for the Webster Chicago I'm in the process of completing. The project will be made from castings, so there will be a lot of pattern work. If my health holds up ok I'll be pouring the parts in aluminum, then on to the shop....

What sort of size are you aiming for? and what is that in relation to the orginal?

Jason, From what the pictures of the original look like, its about half size. On the model the pulley and bull gear are about 6in and 5 1/4 in. The bore is 1 in and the stroke is 2 in. I wanted about this size to go with the Webster Chicago I'm Building.

I dont think so - that one made hand powered pumps like you'd see out in the yard. And it only has one 't' in the name.

Y'all, the pump is the Petters pump - Mfg. by Petters Pump Co. Kewanee, Illinois. It's printed on the air dome.
They have made several versions best I can find. One version is a hand pump with  rack moving the piston and a partial pinion on handle for manual pumping, It uses the same or similar pump parts as the one I'm modeling.

Yup, it seems you are correct. Seems my eyesight is also going bad. I'll have a lot of stuff to correct, including my pattern for the air dome.

After almost 3 weeks on medical time out I'm feeling better and soon to be back. In the mean time I sent the patterns for the pump design to a friend who cast them for me. I think my foundry days are soon coming to a close. I'll miss it! I'm quite pleased with the castings-he did a great job- and can't wait to start cutting metal-After Dr's approval.
