colliery steam engine from Maxwell-Hemmens

(1/3) > >>

Zephyrin:
I just found this lovely machine this morning at a flea market in Normandie, where I'm on vacation with the grandchildren...

I couldn't decipher the logo on the steam chest cover, but with a good photograph of the engine, Google Lens found the model for me in just a few clicks!

It's a model of a mining machine, of inverted type of steam engine; she is a  “Colliery Real Steam Engine,” sold by Maxwell-Hemmens about 20 years ago, and apparently this manufacturer/retailer has disappeared, like many others!
The flywheel is 4.5" dia. The machine is made entirely of iron, steel and probably brass, in imperial dimensions, she is in perfect condition, just too dirty for a shelf model...
I haven't collected this type of machine for a while, but I couldn't resist this bargain! Just a little polish and a few drops of oil when I got home.

Sanjay F:
Nice find, always great to find things when you least expect to find anything! It'll be good to see her running....

Jasonb:
I have an old catalogue of theirs with it in, unfortunately no price to see what it sold for in the early 90s. A steam plant wa salso available to go with it.

Their engines were typically quite polished with bare matal and castings painted black.

Michael S.:
I can't say what the model cost in Great Britain, but in Germany, according to the OKTANT catalog from the 1990s, you had to pay 893 DM for the engine, ready to turn.

I'd like to have it, too.

Michael

Michael S.:
With boiler.
