I’m proud to join this forum.
Stuart’s Shednanigans brought me here. Thank you sir.

I tried building the PM Research #7 as my first steam model, but failed miserably. I found you need to study the drawings, find an appropriate method to hold and machine the castings.
More importantly, you need time.

I retired 3 years ago, and I’m finally getting around to giving this hobby the time and attention it deserves.

Many of these models are small!!

My lathe is a Colchester 15x50 in terrific shape, the four jaw chuck is 10”. The Sharp Mill weighs 3,300#, it’s 3hp. and has a 10x52” table.
I’ve done some quality work with my equipment in the past, so I ordered and received a PM Research #4.
It suits my equipment much better.

I very much look forward to reading and learning all I can from you fellas.

Hello Janderso and welcome! I know Chico fairly well, since a brother lived there for a number of years, and my daughter and son-in-law both attended college there.
Regards,
Ron

Welcome,  there is a wealth of knowledge here! (Thanks to all that have shared knowledge here over the years and continue to do so).
Having a good size lathe like you do (might that be a Colchester Mascot?) gives you the excuse to purchase other lathes for smaller work.  That's my excuse for having 5 lathes including little Denford, through Hardinge HLV-H, Dean Smith and Grace 13" and Colchester Mastiff! Look forward to seeing your projects! Nick

What a nice welcome,
Thank you.

Nick, I have a Clausing Colchester 15x50.
Basically a Colchester, Triumph 2000. Square head-gear head
7.5hp 3 phase 220.
Clausing sold it in the Us and stamped their name on it.
It’s a great lathe with many user friendly features.

Does your lathe have a 5C collet chuck and DRO? Those make a bigger lathe nice for smaller work. You’d never lack for rigidity.
