Did my apprenticeship in 1977 as a fitter and turner. Completed Mechanical Engineering Diploma in 1988. Been drafting with AutoCAD since 2011. Mainly doing 3D CAD and started playing around with 3D printing

Welcome PatB, glad to have you.
I started using AutoCad about 1994, and Solidworks in 2011.

2D CAD is good, but 3D modeling along with 3D printing is a path into foundry work, which is pretty much how I got into it.

Do you have some engine builds in mind ?

Pat J, only just got my 3D printer, so learning about what it can and can't do. Done a few simple exercises, first a gear train and then a Geneva mechanism. Started doing a Rhombic Drive then discovered some 3D 'issues', firstly holes are not round nor are shafts, so will look at using metal shafts (brass or s.s) and get a few hand reamers.

As to models I have some 3D's done, so thinking of Trevithick's second engine (from Mr De Waals plans), working on simplifying it for printing.
