Did my apprenticeship in 1977 as a fitter and turner. Completed Mechanical Engineering Diploma in 1988. Been drafting with AutoCAD since 2011. Mainly doing 3D CAD and started playing around with 3D printing

Welcome PatB, glad to have you.
I started using AutoCad about 1994, and Solidworks in 2011.

2D CAD is good, but 3D modeling along with 3D printing is a path into foundry work, which is pretty much how I got into it.

Do you have some engine builds in mind ?
