Interesting... So you guys think wax is a better solution than a clear gloss coat?

That would certainly be possible!

One I have used very successfully is Renaissance Wax - its made for use on antiques, jewelry, etc. Very clear, dries hard, lasts very long time. Available at Timesavers Clock Parts, amazon, etc. Seems a little pricy, but one can lasts a limetime, unless you are waxing something huge like a car with it. Does not have the yellow tinge that many other waxes do.

I love the smell of that stuff, almost as good as Hoppie's #9  :lolb:

That bell looks great, Kim!  The tone is perfect too.  It could do double duty at the front desk for your guests checking in :)

I'd think the 303 would hold up fine as long as it doesn't get damp.  But you live out here on the we(s)t coast, so maybe a quick wax would be good insurance.

Thanks, Bent, and Per!

Ok, you guys have convinced me.  I'll be picking up some Renaissance Wax and giving that a try!  ;D

If the Renaissance was good enough for Leonardo Da Vinci, it's good enough for clockmakers today!

If that's not good enough, it even has the royal seal impressed on the cap of the wax!  Nothing but the best for your beautiful clock!
