That first image Sanjay posted is a Rapier walking dragline, not a crane, sorry Sanjay. In the aerial shot from CI it is sitting in the middle of the arena area. It is the owner of the "Bigfoot" tag. All 105 tons of it was donated to us by our former govt owned electricity supply company many years ago but only recovered by us about 10 years ago. It is operational and is operated during our annual rally weekend. It walks backwards at about 1 step (maybe 4 to 5 feet) per minute!

Ok, to try and answer some of the questions.
The shovel was built in 1924, one of two sent to Aus. I have looked all over the slewing engine and there is no identity of any sort. The general feeling is that it was built by Ruston. A small brass plate on it says "Slewing engine", while one on the crowd engine says "Crowd engine". Maybe it was a diy kit when they received it!
There are no pics of it in pieces but the bore/stroke is approx 5" x 7.5".
Just a few more pics from various angles.

Ian.

Just a bit more.
Here is the current state of the main body and some local literature posted nearby.
The main winch engine is complete and has been run on compressed air.

Great  pictures, thanks for sharing  them!  That slew engine would make a great model. The spool valve for the throttle is set up just like most ship deck winches, with the wide pipe down to the steam chest having two internal  passages, one steam, one exhaust, the valve switching which is which for direction of spin. Nice!
