Model Engine Collectors Association Meeting near Bern
Roger B:
I read about this meeting in Maschinen im Modellbau and as there appeared to be some engine builders as well as collectors I decided to visit to see if I could meet some likeminded souls.
It was held in the rooms above a country restaurant outside of Bern so due to noise restrictions they could not run any engines.
There were a number of people displaying and selling all sorts of model engines, I have no idea if the prices were good or bad.
Roger B:
There were a lot of rotary engines, one exhibitor had made 8 identical units and had a display of some of the components. The push rods were made of 2mm thin wall stainless steel tube with the balls laser welded on the ends. He was also experimenting with some stainless steel 3D printed 4-1 exhaust collectors.
Another had built some working model gas turbines (they were originally his day job) and them moved onto reciprocating engines with a four cylinder unit of his own design and a Thomas from TS https://www.ts-modelldampfmaschinen.de/ as well as some open crank singles. He is currently working on a hot bulb engine and we got into some detailed discussions about fuel injection systems.
Roger B:
There were some interesting multi cylinder high performance engines including a VR5 being built to use the electronic fuel injectors from a 125cc Honda engine and a rotary valve V8. The blue V10 was said to reach 105 dB a when running.
The tether car group was showing videos of some competitions which seemed somewhat dangerous, reaching speeds of 270 kmph.
