Economic Electric Company 1/8hp Gas Engine Restoration

(1/1)

BGH:
I bought this little EEC 1/8hp engine a couple of years ago and I am gradually restoring it. It had been previously got at, I'm attempting to put right or at least improve where I can.
First job was to get it running, that wasnt so hard. Second was to make the brass oiler using period images and photos of other examples as a guide as to size. Its filled with wool so the oil is somewhat regulated rather than just running right through, the down pipe is screwed in place so I can readily fine tune the flow if needed once restoration is nearer completion. The con rod had been previously bushed but these were worn and the whole lot was binding somewhat, though it did still run. The piston had been replaced with aluminium and was around 1.5" shorter than the originals. So now the con rod is rebushed, old holes blanked off and Ive made my first cast iron piston. I bought new CI rings for it. The photos attached in this and the next post illustrate work to date.

BGH:
Next job is a taper pin to replace the tiny grub screw that holds the crank pin in place. Oh yes Ive made and fitted new main bearing bronze sleeves,
and just made a new crank pin, well a couple, I always like to make one too small to start with  :-[

Jo:
Looks like you are doing rather well at restoring this engine  .

That huge cup reminds me of a grease pot rather than an oil pot

We all make things time and time again. Practise is good for the  :noidea:
