LEGS

I started another little build and I decided to give the legs a go first. I made a simple fixture plate with a notch in it so that I could lay them down flat and then clamp them down so that they wouldn't move while I cleaned up the top and bottom of them.

After taking a little off the bottom I then removed just enough to clean up the top of the legs and by doing them together they are exactly the same height.

I then turned the fixture 90 degrees and drilled the bottom of the legs so they could be threaded with 2-56 holes for attaching the model to a base plate.

Then I flipped them over and drilled the hole in the top of the legs so that the model could be attached to the legs. Then I put the fixture back horizontal and drilled the four side holes that the spreader bar between them can be attached later.

Arbor press? Grinder?
I built the arbor press and it was a fun little project. I replaced all the brass with steel so it would look more original, even cut a new steel rack gear on my little shaper.
Looks like you are off to a good start.

Thanks, I will reveal the model when I get further along.  I like the idea of using steel for some of the brass parts but I don't know if I am capable of cutting a gear rack though. That might be another whole project in its self.
This one won't take too long but to save a little on the shipping I ordered another one of the models so it's waiting patiently on the bench. it will keep me out of the tavern for awhile.

Hello Everyone


I finished the Arbor Press Project today, It was a brief fun project which went well with with only one casualty an 1/8" diameter end mill bravely gave its life for this build, I was cranking the mill table back and turned the handle the wrong direction and the little carbide end mill snapped right off. It's not the end of the world, I will buy another one next time that I go to the tool store.

I started the PM Research Drill Press today. It is quite a bit more complicated than the Arbor Press. So it's going to take awhile to build. I will let everybody know it's going.
