Hemmingway Hammer

(1/2) > >>

Allen Smithee:
I've been out of things for a while, but with retirement at least getting within the long-range radar I wanted to get back into things. Then I was making something for my better third when the shaft of my machining hammer snapped. So I decided to make a new one. I will admit that I took the easy path of getting the Hemmingway kit, largely because I didn't have suitable material in stock and the Hemmingway kit was roughly the same price.

So three hours of mostly turning and a bit of milling later I'm quite pleased with the result:

It's been a while since I've done a pukka taper turn between centres, even with my slightly oddball offset setup (using a boring head with a unimat live centre to avoid messing with the tailstock alignment) but it worked a treat - really pleased with the surface finish:

Maybe this will fire my enthusiasm towards some more complex things...
