I'm still in the software trade and there are still plenty of 'features' being generated by engineers even with so many tools at their disposal - sounds even more like my crankwebs!

Its starting to look a little bit like an engine of sorts.

There are too many variables atm, the crankshaft webs, are not fixed the bearings are not fixed, but everything looks kinda aligned.

I think I'm going to sort out the crankshaft first as the measurement between the webs and pretty much as per the numbers Jason provided when the centre bearing is in place

Then split the centre bearing and position that, followed by the 2 external bearings ...... it will I'm sure require some fettling
for sure. I think I'm going to have to grub screw the flyweel in place for now so I can apply some rotation and then do a keyway at the end........must remember to mill the slot in the crankshaft before fixing the webs!

It looks good. Everything's nicely parallel and centered.

I'm somewhat surprised to see the Crank-Trows being parallel - shouldn't they be 90 degrees apart - so the Engine will be self-starting ?

Best wishes

I went to get measured for a suit, not the final suit fitting is you catch my drift!  ;)

Cranks webs will definitely be 90 degrees apart from each on completion......

Eccentric Strap - distance between centres

I'm confused the holes on the eccentric strap between centres on the drawings is shown as 1 15/16". This is not possible with the straps provided (see from the pictures). Does anyone know what the correct measurement between centres is? I've looked at images of completed engines and the strap is definitley correct, its just the supplied measurement which incorrect

2 1/4" for the horizontals to go with the longer conrods

Also alter the oil hole

Fininshed the eccentrics today. The pin with the hex head which locates in the back and prevents the sheave falling out of the strap is really, really fiddly, but critical!

I bet you thought you were losing the plot with that erroneous measurement? Great that Jason was able to provide the right one :D

Yes, definitely.....I find it odd the actual drawings supplied had the incorrect measurement or rather the measurements for the vertical engine and not the horizontal? ::)

Today was valve chest day and I remembered to make them a fraction oversize in the vertical axis so hopefully the lagging will nicely butt up against the lip when finished

Also alter the oil hole

I modified the oil hole by using the same method used on the Stuart No.9 but smaller. Drilled vertically for 0.100" using a 7BA clear and then angled the eccentric strap over 35 degrees and drilled until it broke through using a 1/16". Works fine and a nice trickle of oil getting to the sheave

Valve rod length?

Again I have some confusion, but this time around the length of the valve rod. I have 3 drawings, a couple of really old tatty ones and the one which came with the castings.

So far I have machined:

- 3/32" diameter for a length of 7/16"
- Threaded 5BA for a length of 7/16"

I need to know the distance from the threaded section to the fork end; from the drawings I have to add another 1/8" threaded 5BA to connect it
Best regards
