Welcome back, Willy.  More great progress.  More interesting techniques, you are the master of hand tools.  Must have been all that violin practice.

I like that broach idea, I must try that one.  Any particular traps too look out for?  And to avoid breaking the file?

Hi "M". thanks for the message and I have always had the capacity to think outside the box ox and try things out  without someone looking over my shoulder  ?!!!the file is of course square all the way through the tang so holding it in the 3 jaw chuck can be tricky..

cheers

I have now connected the pairs of the eccentric together as per the instructions ..however as the central split eccentrics have all the bolts connecting the halves together there is no room for the thin No 53 drill  rod I shall have to figure something out ..I may just scratch a mark on both parts to position them. I have used this tapered rule to adjust the offset of the parts

The middle eccentrics have been set using the lathe as the other ones and I have scratched them to indicate how they align on the crankshaft they are attached to the crane shaft with 6BA grub screws but I will beef these up to ensure better security
here are the drawings showing parts being adjusted

The bearings are made from 3/8th square brass but need to be only 5/16th wide so I have modified the vice to use the hardend steel jaws to file each side to the correct dimension . as the holes were drilled 5/32 " I had to file each side separately .. The wire diameter is drawn as 1/16th but I am using 14 gauge bike spokes as the steal is much stronger than EN1A.. I have made a jig for the lengths to be determined   .

When a file like that is wielded, then the components being treated know who is the boss! The foreman of the workshop that I was working in for a while had various characterful names that he bestowed on bastard and Dreadnought files, but alas, not ones that are to be recorded on a genteel forum ....
Good progress on these quantities of production run parts, will be satisfying to see them made up into the various assemblies. Dave

It has been pretty dry here too. Looks as though we might both get some rain next week.

Hi Dave and Charles      thanks for the comments  and I don't know the entomology of the term bastard ?? and yes we had .15  "of rain here in NR3 !!!    I have made the milling jig plate for the expansion links and have made the 7/32nd rod to use as a guide for the milling cutter and also have drilled a detent in the bottom pin to use with the dividers.

I have completed the milling platform including the holes for the brass die block spigots. also I will reduce more metal from the expansion links....so more sawing and filing. also the 7/32 " slot drill for the die block, the expansion links are raised from the jig to prevent milling away the base.
