The con rod components  are now ready to be silver soldered. I have also drilled the rods to try and lighten the engine as much as possible ...

Willy, the result looks good. Now to work on the other two. Will the other side be soldered as well?

Best regards, Michael

I have soldered on the small end and used the Myford to turn the top part
. I have used the 4 jaw chuck and I centred the 1/2". X 3/4" stuck using the cross slide and its accurate dial , rather than a DTI on the 4 faces ..the centering for this part is not too critical and it is quite quick and easy to do ..
so slowly getting progress .....

Thanks all and I was following the O J  Bertinat inptructions that he talked about the  Model Engineer quite a few years ago I have used the hardened steel filing buttons to prepare the curved ends of the small ends..

I have made a mistake with the small ends position and angle by 3/32nda as all the dimensions are in Inch fractions so I will  Put in some steel plugs with silver solder and remark them and drill again in the correct place .... I have also modified the Emco lathes traverse handle that is quite small and very close to the main body. I have attached a large chunk of ally that is cross hatched and can now quickly traverse the saddle just by using my open outstretched hand pushing it backwards and forwards, this has speeded this up quite quickly!!

I am now repairing the small ends with silver soldered rods in place.. you can see how far out the original holes were and you can see the ring of the solder from the first attempt . the rods were filed down and the inner parts sawn-off then holes were drilled from each side with a pilot drill and then reamed to size the curved parts will be sawn and filed using the hardened steel buttons

The first con rod has been filed to shape using the buttons unfitted to the cross head. the buttons are held in place and are free to revolve. this has benefited up by hand just using eyesight so is quite labour intensive ..

The other con rods have benefited to shape and still more machining do on them. I have just bought this magnetic retrieval rod that has I light in the end ...to find all those nuts and bolts that I keep dropping !!
