For a three cylinder  engine, aren't there  three sets of eccentrics, not two? Or is the third one handled differently  somehow?

The "2" eccentrics shown on the drawing are the one-piece versions for the HP and LP cylinders. The eccentric for the IP needs to be split, since it cannot be slipped over the end of the crankshaft like the others.

Hi Chris. yes there are three sets of eccentrics and the outside  HP andLP can be slid onto the projecting crankshaft. The middle eccentrics have to be slit on the centre line and held together with the two socket head screws....So this is made with a 3/8th and a 5/8th slab bolted together . this is the part I am showing being made now and the block will make both eccentrics after turning in the 4 jaw chuck after accurately aligned ≥ then turnaround before being sawn apart ...... so .. more work later on
cheers

Hi Gene yes you are right and the eccentrics are actually 15/16ths OD  so I am not sure where the "2" comes from ?? I shall try and provide more text when describing the processes in future with photos including rules to give the sizes for more info. I usually finish work about 3 AM and then put the days work on the net so am quite tired by then ?!!.
Cheers

Its fr9m the plan you show where it says 2 off, meaning make 2 of that piece, not 2 inches.

Hi Ok thank "C"  and is this how one  types in 2 of ! more work in the eccentrics ..they are bolted together the the edges sawn off to stop clunking in the lathe . howitzer because of the bolting apertures there is still some clunking,  so the 4 jaw is used first for the Ist initial turning then the pair are turned round and the 3 jaw used .. they are then marked out and the hole is bored on the parting position  it is centred then drilled smaller than 3/8th then bored with a small boring tool . then reamed to 3/8th ...

more work on the eccentric straps  so slow but sure progress...............they have been turned to size and there is quite a lot of metal on the castings that need filing off...

More work on the straps ...I have screwed separate pieces of the spiders to the small cast iron Emco Unimat lathe that is held in the Myford lathe. buttons have been made to file the bottom radius. the top bolting face is marked out to file and drill to hold the eccentric rod in place ..there are six of these to make so quite time consuming

the eccentrics and straps are now all filed up and the next jobs are the rods..I will have to make some jigs todo this  a coup, eof pics showing the marking out for the bolting face. and using one of the buttons to sand down the straps to avoid damage to the fingers as these are1/4 " thick...

That gives me an idea. A few times I've needed to make very thin (1mm or less) washers and it's always tricky (and sometimes painful!) to remove the burrs after parting off; I could make a button like this by turning a small spigot on the end of a rod.

That's a really good idea I like that a lot; especially good when having to accurately repeat a process several times over
Best regards
