MEM at the 2025 Midland Model Engineering Exhibition (MMEX2025)
« on: January 10, 2025, 02:59:04 PM »
Last year, we made special arrangements for MEM members to exhibit on a day to day basis with a stream lined booking in/out system for the models. These special arrangements were considered to have been a great success by both our MEM exhibitors and the MMEX show organisers. Mike Cole, Charles Lamont, (Andy) Chipmaster and (Colin) Twizseven  together, put on a magnificent display of their individual models on each of the four days of the exhibition.

I have been contacted by the MMEX2025 shop organisers, inviting the MEM group to attend again this year. The Exhibition dates are 16th – 19th October. In addition, the show organisers have extended the invitation to include live running and moving demonstrations on our stand and will be able to provide a mains electrical supply if required.

Any indoor running of engines will need to be controlled in a sensible manner. Our MEM members, who wish to run their engines or give moving demonstrations, must provide an individual safety/ risk assessment which must also consider the wellbeing of the other exhibitors and visitors in the hall. Their activities must, above all, be safe, not make excessive noise (this includes air compressors), or make smoke (soot or oil ) and must not produce fumes, vapors or smells. An outside running area can be provided, on request, for running any loud, smoky or smelly engines.

MMEX25 is still a long way ahead  (16th – 19th October) but an early indication from MEM members who may wish to exhibit, run engines or make a moving display would be welcome. Remember we need to have someone exhibiting on each of the four days, with ideally two people in attendance each day. So the more, the merrier.

Please reply to this post, if you would like the opportunity to exhibit and if you would like to run or demonstrate. An indication as to what’s involved with running you particular engine would be welcome. I can then forward this information to the MMEX2025 show organisers

Cheers

Hi Mike, I would like to exhibit and run engines at the Midlands Show 2025. I have internal combustion, hot air and flame gulping engines that are suitable for running sedately on their tables.

I would be interested in this if there is space available, I could potentially do 2 days, it depends on if my Dad fancies going as well

Andy, Thanks for getting back so quickly. A sedate i/c engine, a hot air and flame gulper sound like a good selection of running engines and should provide an exciting display. We will need to prepare our case carefully, but it's down to the show's organisers to give the final OK. We need to avoid upsetting the neighboring stands, who may not have such an interesting display. Can I pencil you in for two days, like last year?

Samc88, I will also pencil you in for two days.

Right now, I am only attempting to find out if there will be sufficient members and exhibits for each of the four days of the show. If you guys (and gals) express enough interest, I will be able to accept the invitation on behalf of the MEM. It will also give me an indication if I should put 2, 3 or 4 display tables onto our wish list. So please roll up and send your names in, don't be shy.

Later, towards the end of summer, I will come asking for more details from each of you, so that I can prepare all the endless paperwork and make detailed arrangements. But please give me a show of hands as soon as you can.

Ade, I just found your notification. At the very least we should have a MEM banner on display. I tried to get hold of the previous banner, for last years show, but it has gone astray and Jo could not locate it.

Cheers

Mike

I am in a local modelling club (for plastic kits etc) and they have just had banners and flyers printed with the club logo for when at shows, would you like me to pass on the contact for who did the printing if last years ones aren't available to print some MEM ones?

Hello samc,

Thank you. Please send the contact details of your banner printers.

If there are any more of you out there who are interesting in exhibiting your handywork at the MMEX2025 ?  Let me know.

Cheers

Hi Mike,

I too would like to exhibit and run engines at the Midlands Show 2025. I have internal combustion (if I can get it to run :D), hot air and flame gulping engines that are also suitable for running sedately (i hope) on their tables.

Regards,
Colin

Hello Colin,

Good to hear from you. I will certainly put your name on the list.   It looks like we are heading for two display tables, just like last year.

Cheers

Call for exhibitors for MMEX 2025, Thursday 16th October to Sunday 19th October

Hello All,

I have just been contacted by the Midland Model Engineering Exhibition (MMEX 2025) management team, who wish to start the process of finalising the arrangements for this years show.  They are proposing to allocate the MEM members, two display tables in the same location as last year.

As you will recall: we have made special arrangements for MEM members to exhibit on a day to day basis with a stream lined booking in/out system for the models. These special arrangements were tried last year and were considered to have been a great success by both our MEM exhibitors and the MMEX show organisers.
Mike Cole, Charles Lamont, (Andy) Chipmaster and (Colin) Twizseven  together, put on a magnificent display of their individual models on each of the four days of the exhibition.

This year, the show organisers have extended the invitation to include live running and moving demonstrations on our display tables and will be able to provide a mains electrical supply if required.

So far, only (Andy) Chipmaster, (Colin) Twizseven and samc88 have expressed a wish to exhibit and run their models. It seems unlikely that they alone will be able to meet the minimum requirement to man the MEM display area on each of the four days of the Show.

This then, is a call for more MEM members to come forward to display (and perhaps operate) their model engineering masterpieces, at what is effectively the last remaining, large model engineering exhibition in the country. I have been sent all the 'exhibitor forms' which need to be completed by the end of August (so plenty of time remaining). I will send these to all potential exhibitors shortly. But first, we need more potential exhibitors to cover the four days of the show. If we cannot achieve the four day requirement, the show organisers are likely to withdraw the MEM invitation.

So step up, use it or loose it!!!

Cheers

Mike

Sorry to have to repeat this post, but unless more members are willing to exhibit their engines, we are at risk of loosing our two allocated tables. So step up, use it or loose it!!!

Sorry I am no longer capable of driving for hours, woman-ing a stand for a day and then driving home for hours after.

I am planning to attend Guildford next month for one day and even that will knock me for six for many days afterwards :(

Hello Jo,

Thanks for calling in. Sorry to hear you are not up to attending MMEX this year. Unfortunately, time marches on and many of us are no longer able to do as much as we would like. Hope to see you again at Guildford.
