It's a really enjoyable build. I don't know why I put it off for so long. No time like the present!

Today I finished the crank, flywheel, and the base for the column. I remade the crank bearing because it had too much play both inside and out. I made a reamer of the same stock I used for the crank shaft so now it fits nice. I also made a set screw for the flywheel from a 2-56 stainless hex bolt I had left over from another project.

Busy day today. First I made the jig and drilled all the passages in the column and the cylinder. Then I cut off the column and installed the base disk, which is one of my mods to the plans, and installed the bearing. Both are close fit and secured with locktite.

Elmer said his spring was salvaged, but from what? I found a thin wire spring and rewound it to fit, then threaded the pivot pin 1-72 and made a nut to hold it all together. I think I have too much spring pressure but the nut gives a small adjustment.

I have everything made except for a proper steam fitting, but I couldn't resist giving it a trial run.

The plan says rounding the outside of the cylinder is optional, but squared as mine is looks wrong. I'm thinking I should have done that after squaring the stock. I may be making another cylinder.

Thanks for the comments, this was a fun one!

Congratulations on a good looking runner, Eric. Sounds just like mine, done as the first project on my Taig.

Ron

The coin brings home how small that little guy is.  Interesting design!

I went ahead and rounded the cylinder, but first I made a practice piece just in case I turned the original into scrap.

It still lacks a steam fitting, but I don't have the correct tap drill for that.

As it turns out I do have the correct drill, stored with the tap and die of all places. I made the steam fitting and drilled the oil hole for the crank. Some how I missed that step. Here it is 100% complete this time.

Great little engine. It reminds me of a robot like chess piece, or perhaps a miniature steam Dalek from Dr Who, which to me increases its appeal. Congratulations on this little gem. Regards, Paul.

That would make an interesting chess set for sure. Hmmm.

Thanks,
Eric
