Clarkson 24 x 38 vertical
« on: December 20, 2024, 06:29:01 PM »
Another one squeezed in before the end of the year. This time it's a metric version of the smaller Clarkson vertical which gives a bore of 24mm and stroke of 38mm and like the horizontal I did a few months ago I have sleeved the flywheel upto 114mm dia. Blackgates should be able to supply copies of my metric drawings some time in the new year along with the casting set for those that prefer to work in metric and have better and complete drawings to work from.

I quite like the lines of this engine, it is taller and generally of lighter lines than the similarly sizes Stuart No7 which is quite stocky. The longer stroke allows a nice slow tickover for display yet it has a good turn of speed and the thumb on the flywheel tests suggests some reasonable power.

It's beautiful, I like the sound of it running slowly  :)
Best regards

Great result! That lighter green looks good with the gray. Love the sound at slow tickover.

Thanks all.

I'm not sure about writing this one up a the moment due to the recent changes at ME Mag, I had intended to tack it onto the already submitted horizontal build that I did earlier in the year but will have to see what pans out. It would only hav ebeen how to deal with the main castings anyway as all the minor parts are the same or very similar to the horizontal. If I does not go in the mag it will appear here.

Must go still time to get a little one complete before Xmas!

That makes a lovely engine, the pared down form of it and the attractive colour makes for an unusual and rather elegant small vertical :  a bit like an "organ" engine on a roundabout centre engine. Dave

Yes I suppose it does have the lines of a Savage or Tidman organ engine. Could even be used as a basis for one, just needs painting red, some pinstriping and as much bling as you can add to the other components and a governor. Certainly a more manageable size than the small one that Reeves do.

That's a really nice engine. I like the longer stroke engines.
