Another Hemmingway Quick Set Keats

Ah if it is a bit of supplied bar then yest stick with a 1/4" thread or you could probably have reduced the ends in diameter before bending

redhouseluv:
Interesting day today

- Made a centre hole in the base and then discovered I cannot bolt the Vee block to it after base is fixed to the faceplate
- Overcame that by making a smaller centre in the guide bar which I can see when the Vee block is in place
- Centre in the tailstock cannot reach hole even at the full extent; may have to make something to fit drill chuck or collet
- Spent ages setting up the saddle to cut radius and discovered I was about to cut the radius the wrong way round  :)
- 3rd time lucky went back to mill/boring bar with solid setup and this time it worked
- had numerous attempts at bending the rod until finally got something useable, but not pretty
- forgot I was meant to thread the bar 1st so thinking of using a tailstock die with the arm removed and a pair of grips.....

Few little bits to go and then I'm ready for tweaking to get it running accurately

redhouseluv:
All components are now complete, clamp fits and just waiting a 1/4" BSF die to arrive, made the tiny vee in the saddle clamp.

Just need to test the accuracy and have this piece of 3/8" silver steel which should be good for putting a DTI on....

redhouseluv:
The Keats is now complete.....I tested it for accuracy:

Test 1: checks the accuracy when mounted on the faceplate, it suggests 0.001" over 1", I'm clocking 0.001" over 1.5" (see 1st 2 pics)

Test 2: checks how parallel the Vee block is using a surface plate and DTI, it suggests 0.002" over 4", I can barely read the deflection on the DTI (see 2nd 2 pics)

Pleased with the result, but now I need a project where I can use it!  ;D
