workshop in the planning,,
« on: November 14, 2024, 12:59:57 PM »
clearing of the yard for my retirement shop, (maybe less than 2 years) tree service that we have used before doing a big job, 150ft of driveway and then the big clearing, lots of very big pines, a few oak, sourwoods and 2 massive sweetgums, I dropped and cut up all the small stuff over the last few weekends,, sorry for the dark early morning pictures but it was about twenty minutes ahead of the heavy rain coming in today,, don't think too much will get done today..

Good job! Looks like your workshop is likely to have a log burner  ;D

salt box type roof, optimized for angle and direction for solar panels.. not much of a need for burning wood in our area,, summer cooling the greater cost... not much good burning wood there anyways mainly pine..

So the solar panels can run the Aircon. I can recommend air conditioned workshops (and houses)

the owens corning solar shingles we added when the house needed reroofing took a huge hunk out of the electric bill.. not enough wattage for full operation but you have the days where the heat pump is barely working, those days we sell back to the grid.. the sizing on the new place should be close to dead even when you factor everything in..

no ponds as not enough level spots,, my 10' x 16' koi pond was built into hillside.. I am thinking about a 10' x 10' out building designed for casting and "hot" work..

some daylight photos, the big pines are(were) 90 years+,  the heavy rain on thursday slowed the work so they will finish on monday.. the age of the trees makes sense with other things I found in the area,, metal detecting an old house foundation withing 100yds I found an old shotgun breach,, the place had burned or was burned,, other debries point to a backs wood still operation was here!!! found draft animal shoe nails in the woods, most likely was cornfields back then.." still waiting to find a mason jar full of silver dollars"  I also have found some native american worked stones and mortar bowls..

 That's a fairly young pine with the tape on it looking at the rings.

Yesterday we had to use hammers/wedges on Cedar rings that were over 4ft in diameter and that tree despite its size was also surprisingly young at about 40 years. Not something you want growing near your house or workshop.

I don't know if there's much that's more exciting than building your dream shop. Looking forward to progress.

I have no advice other than "have fun with it" and "do it the way you want to". About as useless as advice gets.

I shall enjoy watching the build and egging you on.
