Hello everybody,
I know that this post has been long over due. This engine is my version of a Brian Fairey design published in Model Engine Builder magazine issues 15-16. It is a 1.093 cubic inch four stroke with a 1.125" bore and a 1.1" stroke. For the metric crowd that's 25.575 X 27.94 bore and stroke and 17.918 cubic centimeter.

I did put two videos up because they show opposite sides of the engine. Since finishing Val I have gone through 3 mufflers and finished a nice walnut base. Since Brian designed it to look like an RC airplane engine I gave it more cooling, borrowed the idea of a chicken hopper gas tank and crankcase ventilation running into the intake manifold from RC engines I saw on line.






The photos show it with the previous muffler sort of a cherry bomb, I got noise complaints, if you can believe that! It runs smoother at speed than at idle. Someone at my local club had a pony break setup and at 6100 rpm it puts out about .3 horsepower, that makes me happy.

That's gorgeous, sounds mighty fine too ....... I've not ventured in to IC engine world yet, but having seen your engine sure makes me want to  ;D

to limit complaints, I have to wait for a lawnmower in a nearby garden to test my engines outside...
but it seems to me that the volume of the silencer is far too small compared with what I've read, you need at least 5 times the volume of the engine for a significant reduction in noise.
oh, personally, I wouldn't dare run an engine on the tablecloth without getting oil all over it!

Thanks for your compliments Sanjay, Dave and Zephyrin.
Thankfully my Val doesn't leak much oil, but does leak fuel and I assume that's due to the fuel tank being to high. The volume of the engine running is a problem at my local show where the building is the size of a 2 car garage (Think non-insulated pole shed) and Val running at 6100 rpm is about 73 dB. The new muffler as far as I can tell isn't quieter but a lower pitch and not as ear piercing. Fortunately the neighbors don't seem to care, and I have run the chain saw to cut up wood and brush. Just do it smart not early or late!
