Hello everyone,
Because today is a holiday, there was time for the workshop. I built the motor base. I got a bronze flange from the scrap yard and cut a piece out of it. I had a mishap while milling. The milling machine has pulled into the material. But it's my own fault because I should have drilled out the corners first. So I had to solder a piece in again. Better than starting over again.
I first cut the threads vertically with a stand from the drill and completely by hand. I have a better feel for the torque with my hand.
Next comes the second base.

That's some very fine work! Nice to find a use for a bit of scraptonium. I prefer hand tapping small threads like that also - feel is so important on those. Looks really good - unfortunate about the milling incident - but top class repair.

Jealous of you having a day off work. I looked longingly at my shop as I drove out this morning.

Not all federal states in Germany have a holiday today. We celebrate Reformation Day. Over 500 years ago, Martin Luther nailed down his theses.
And tomorrow is vacation, which is what most of the population does.

Today I worked on another brass block for the base.
Inside the block was hollowed out. The external shape is slightly tapered towards the top. So that the shape looks similar to a cast part. Two tabs soldered on the left and right and rounded with a file.
Now I could start the flywheel.

I worked on the flywheel today. It was made from one piece of cast iron.
Prepared in the lathe and the spokes formed in the milling machine. The rest was finished with a file. I wanted a cast iron look.
(well maybe more work with the file. But it will still get color)

There was still time for the crankshaft bearings today.
A piece of bronze was cut to size. This time I use a sharpened engraving pen (6 mm).
I thought I could protect the cutters a bit. I received these things as a gift in a large package and don't know how to use them any other way.
These were the smallest oil vases I have ever made. It's all very fiddly.
Since I don't have any round material with a diameter of 3.5 mm for the crankshaft, I had to turn it myself in the lathe from silver steel. It worked well. I think I'll glue the crankshaft with Loctite. Do not solder.

Thanks Stuart, this was my first time dealing with 1.6mm threads. A magnifying glass is often used. But that could also be because of my old eyes 🧐. It will be a steam engine in the pocket.

Oh I know all about that. Magnifying glasses of various types are strewn all over - but they help us keep on top of things, so all good.
