do you think you will need metal bushings at the pivot pin location?
Yes - they are there in the original too, so in the plan. For now I just have a smaller pin there to see how it looks assembled.

Great looking Boom Chris

I agree that PETG is a LOT stronger than PLA - especially in Compression.
I have printed some Tools in PETG for Bearing installing and removing in eBike motors and they just work extremely well in the Hydraulik Press. So well in fact, that I now have a hard time imagine me making any in metal in the future ....

Now the Proof will be how much and for how long it will work as you hope / expect ....

Per
Interesting! Prusa uses PETG for a lot of the blocks in the printer, so it must be pretty stable/strong. On some of their upgrade kits, they supply the print files plus a spool of PETG filament for the user to print his own upgrade parts (in addition to the new hardware, metal parts, motors, etc). That keeps the cost down on upgrades, pretty slick. Their factory has banks of printers churning out parts for new printers, then when they have new versions there is very little tooling to remake, thats got to be a huge cost savings for them.
All good till the robot brains take over the world and start printing new robots to help the takeover...  :LittleDevil:

Thanks Jeff!   At the submarine run at the pool yesterday, one of the guys from Buffalo had an Acme Airboat model, with a Wile E Coyote figurine at the helm!

On to the bearing blocks for the derrick drum shaft. Started by geting the bronze blanks trued up and to dimension the other day, now drilled and reamed for the shafts. Used a work stop in the vise to position all the blocks the same for drilling.

Then notched the bottom faces to fit over the frame rails

A quick test fit to make sure things were lining up...

then it was time to round over the tops of the bearings blocks. Put them on the vertical rotary table with the same arbor used to hob the worm wheel, and made series of passes with the end mill to round over the top ends, taking the curves flush to the sides of the blocks. One pass every five degrees in the rotary table, and the curve is nice and smooth.

Here is one block after rounding, one still square for comparison:

Also turned up the bearings for the worm gear shaft, and the end plate to hold that shaft. The shaft extends through the floor and up to another bevel gear.

Then on to making the caps for the bearing blocks. Cut some chunks off the end of a longer bar, trimmed them to length, and am currently notching the sides of them for the screws. I'll drill the screw holes in the caps, bolt pairs of them together, and use the lathe to drill/bore holes to fit over the bearing block tops.

The gearbox for the turntable looks good. A lot of small parts have to fit together.
You're making good progress.

Thanks guys!

After getting the rest of the shoulders milled in to the bearing caps, the pairs were bolted together to drill/bore out the center holes to match the OD of the tops of the bearings:

Then trimmed off the excess above the holes

so next I'll round off the tops of the caps to finish them off...

Todays shop playtime got the tops of the bearing caps rounded off

and a start on the derrick cable drums, one for each side. Simple turning, alternating between center/left/right tools and flipping the part around halfway through.

Thanks  guys!   A few more parts will complete the turntable frame and floor...
