Chris's Ransome Tree Feller

The model of the Ransome Patent Tree Feller is complete. As noted in the buiild (well, both builds, first one was a bust), the valve system on this model was modified from the original Ransome design, which I was not able to get to run well. This new design of the valve uses a shuttle valve similar to the ones in some boiler feedwater pumps. Details on that and diagrams are over in the build thread in the Supporting/Vehicles And Models section of this forum. This design is working quite well, much happier with it!

Running pretty well, took a few tests to get the pressure and valve setting to give it enough power to get through the 'tree', which is held by a screw through the end of the display base, with a threaded insert in the display base to take the screw. The saw itself is bolted up through the display base to hold it in place. Running pretty good!!

Liked the special "trunk clamp" ! I think you have just the right blade for it too.  Another great build.

Another interesting and well executed project from you, Chris! Since you don't have a fireplace, maybe you could put to work as a salami slicer? You know, for nibbling along with a Steam Beer?

Hmm, maybe make the first steam powered cheese slicer...      or use it to cut chunks off those big dark chocolate  bars!

Wow, that model is working great!  I was surprised how easily and quickly it cut the demo board.

Would an old school (12") Gi-Joe action figure be about the appropriate scale size for the operator?  I've been looking at some of the wood-cuts of the Ransome and they show it smaller than I thought it would be.

They would probably about the right size. I didn't  build it to any particular  scale, just sized it for the lathe and bar stock on hand.

Another truly outstanding and unique build Chris! I'm glad you finished it. It makes me wonder how well the original saw worked with the twisted valve rod?
