I haven't settled on a permanent cooling system. My intention was to rely on convection however some examples of Mery engines on YouTube have added pumps to improve circulation so I bought a Microcosm P71 Mini Double-Acting Piston Water Pump to see how it performed.
Cooling might not be an issue anyway because I can only give the cylinder a small dose of oil between runs and I have no idea how long the engine should be run between stops for adding oil to the cylinder oiler.
Here's a video from my Flickr album.

The pump works and would probably be sufficient although it is very small, only about three inches long and the pipes are very small bore too. If it doesn't go with the Mery it will be paired up with a suitable steam engine. I have mounted the pump on a larger brass base for convenience, it is held with four 10ba brass screws.

Meanwhile I am having to make another crankshaft for the Mery because the flywheel was wobbling. Not because it was loose on the shaft but the shaft itself measured seven thou runout at the end. The other side with the five inch diameter pulley is perfect. I assume the bent shaft has something to do with a month of tugging the flywheel sometimes furiously as I attempted to start it during last December and January.
So this afternoon I machined the webs on the lathe's faceplate. Two lengths of steel were fastened together then set up so that utilising the slots in the faceplate I could slide the embyonic webs between the two positions for drilling and reaming and ensure the bores were parallel.

all being well I'll machine the crankpin tomorrow and silver solder the assembly.
