Started on the guide bar bracket for the ransome and may engine this evening. Just the middle part to machine away next as clearance for the connecting rod.

Got the guide bar support bracket finally finished and also made a start on the guide bars, next step is machine the bottom flat and then drill some holes before splitting into 4 pieces

I haven't posted for a while and been off and on in the shed but I have been making some progress lately making some of the smaller parts. The slide bars I wasn't very happy with so I fabricated some up from steel which I think look a bit sharper (i still need to sort oil cups for the top pair). I have also made the governer outer bearing as a nice easy job and started some bits on the throttle assembly, namely the throttle body and the stop valve (once those are done I can make a start on making studs and gaskets).

Carrying on with some fiddly bits (I started doing the throttle bits to get me back into the build after a break, plus I thought Id be less inclined to them once the bulk of the engine is together and can be spun round). Got the throttle spindle and valve done tonight, used a 1/16 drill and an end mill to open the slot in the throttle valve and then filed the flats on the spindle, held in a collet block in the vice as it was easy to hold it securely abd could flip it 180 to help get a nice parrallel surface. The corners of the slot needed dressing slightly to get a nice fit and one that was done the throttle was parted off. It needed shaping to rotate smoothly and this was done with files and wet and dry sandpaper and everything rotates smoothly and the valve does work and seal when tested with blowing through it. I've left the spindle overly long for now and will take to final length once the bearing is done on the other side.
