Hello Jason,
the redesign of the model steam engines looks good.
A beautiful engine that drove the transmission in the factories.
(I have a small suggestion for the casting of the crosshead guide. It looks a bit strange to me that there is no surrounding edge on the casting at the end where the connecting rod exits. That somehow doesn't fit with the edge of the open window on the crosshead. Just that a thought of mine)

There are a lot of additional features that could be added and if I do the much modified version then a lot of those will be included. But this one will be quite close to the original as it would be a good beginner's first casting kit and as it does not come with barstock and fixings they won't feel obliged to go down the imperial/BA route.

The support leg under the end of the trunk guide would also be in keeping with what in the compound form is meant to represent a fairly large engine with rope grooved drum but then again so many other featured don't fit in with that size of engine for example it would not have had just two mounting points for the bed castings.

The purse making is going well

All original castings have been made use of, still a bit of surface fettling to be done here and there.

I think the stories of Clarkson castings being hard are fake news put out by people trying to keep the interest in them and therefore cost down so that they can grab a bargain for themselves. All have  been nice iron to machine.

It seems that the old castings are quite happy being metricated and all survived the process. All the issues with the original design/drawings have also been addressed. Couple of little bits to be done to complete it and then slap on some paint.

PS It did not sieze up. ;)

You are very quick to complete the engine! The engine runs well and looks very nice too. What color will it be?

Thanks, about three weeks since I started. I need to retire then I won't finish them so quickly or so I'm told!

I will probably go with something similar to the 3D images. I have the green which I have used before and fancy doing the base in grey rather than black.

This color combination will look good.
I still need 9 years until retirement and I can't do much anymore. But I also have too many projects

I've put the finished engine in it's own thread

https://www.modelenginemaker.com/index.php/topic,11923.msg281446.html#msg281446

It would be easy for anyone doing the twin or compound to use these metric drawings as mostly it is just doubling up or mirroring the parts from the single. I may even add a separate sheet or two detailing the few additional or unique parts for the compound and twin.

Just a quick update to say that Blackgates are now able to supply a set of my metric drawings which comprise 14 A4 sheets, one GA one with 3D views, and the remaining 12 of the individual parts. Just mention you want the metric ones when ordering a set of castings.

I'm also half way through writing up the build which will go into ME Mag and I will also give Blackgates permission to include that with any future kits sold.

In time I will also do a set of drawings for the vertical as I now have a set of castings for that, not sure when as another little Clarkson has caught my eye and is now nearer the top of the list.
