Vacuum Device for the Lathe
« on: August 21, 2024, 05:57:59 PM »
Hi Everybody,
some cast iron is to machine in the next days and I wanted to get ride of the graphite dust.
A short visit in a DIY store, department plumbing has given the most needed stuff.
The rest was made by the 3D printer.
My special design for the collecting pan.
And the overall installation.
A rusty bar of 30 mm cast iron has to be attacked first.
The "big parts" stay, but the dust is nearly completely disappeared.

Thanks.
And yes in Ron‘s corner no Crankshaft news next time. But perhaps we will see some more Chinese Dragons.

The new printer arrived late yesterday afternoon, and works perfectly. Only a couple of the pre-loaded parts so far (no dragons), but it does seem to be very well designed and very well built, as well as easy to use for a complete beginner. As you said over on your V-12 thread:

It is like a normal tool, its should work when needed and exactly that is the case here.

Looks good.  I ended up making 3d printed suction nozzles as consumable items - I could stick the nozzle right up next to the cutter and keep nearly all the swarf from flying around the workbench.  Consumable, in that I would inevitably jam the nozzle against the workpiece, or between the chuck and the toolpost, with predictable results  :embarassed:.
