More drilling/tapping/sawing, got the pivot extensions for the valve linkages. These have the pivots that will take the motion of the piston and convert it into back and forth movement for the shuttle valve system. At either end of the travel on the valve these rods move directly, it will send pressure to alternating ends of the the shuttle rod that moves the d valve back and forth that actually controls the piston.

Next will make up the linkages/pivots that will hang on this framework and the piston end plate. After that, likely will start on the piston head, after that the valve blocks... This build is moving along quicker than I thought!

That looks really good!
I'm excited to see how you plan to make the controls.

Made up the connecting links to control the valves. These links will move the first slider, which will send steam to one end or the other of the shuttle valve, which controls the piston. Here is a set of three pictures with the piston in the left, center, and right positions. I made some pen marks on the long link bar (red arrow in first picture) to show the movement of the link:

Next up will be to start shaping the valve blocks. Picked out some stock and cut the pieces to rough length, these will need to be trimmed down to final dimensions then can start cutting in the ports/passages/mounting holes.

There are some scale trees (seedlings) growing in the garden that will be good test subjects!
