Hmm.  Looks good, and glad you are giving this another go.  It's always looked a little odd to me, that the guide rails for the saw are so slender, and would worry that the mechanism might bind due to flexing of the rails.  But then, like with a good sharp chainsaw, you should never need to "reef" on the saw to force the cut, the saw should just plow its way through.  Another good thread to follow, watching again with interest!

Thanks!  On this version I did increase the size of the rods slightly, actually! Also increased the bore a bit.

      Looking great Chris. Just a suggestion re any memos you might write the shop elves while building this saw - careful not to mention any phrases about "staff cuts" or "half measures" "or getting a leg up on the competition" ...
Spare Parts.  That sort of phrase too...  :LittleDevil:

Guide rods are made, with the ends drilled/tapped for lengths from some 8-32 screws. I like doing it that way to get a full thread right up to a sqaure shoulder. Also made the piston rod the same way, have not made the piston head or the bearings for the sliding plate yet. Here are the parts so far assembled on the cylinder. The piston rod is bolted to the middle plate, which will slide back and forth on the guide rods. The middle and end plate still get more shaping for the blade holder and the valve link pivots.

Today was another day out at the pond with the boats and the local group, this time took along one of my tugboats to play with. Perfect weather for it. Probably will get the bearings for the slider rods made tomorrow...

This one is a model of a big twin screw diesel tug. Model has a motor on each prop, separate  speed controls, big 4 blade props inside steerable Kort nozzles.

One of the others mentioned how their  boat turned on a dime. Hah! I reversed one prop so the tug spun in place, said THATS turning on a dime. Switched directions on  each prop so it spun the other way, and said And there's  your change from the dime!

Back in the shop this morning, got the bearings for the middle slider plate turned up, and did more shaping/drilling on the two plates:

Here are things so far. More shaping needed on the blade clamp bars, and also add the pivot holes for the valve links:

The blade holder and all is looking great. And the saws-all blade sure looks the right size for the project!

Thanks Kim!

And I  forgot to mention,  the block holding the end of the blade has a little post on the underside that fits into the hole in the  base of the blade to lock it in place. That block was salvaged from the first Ransome attempt.
