The square nuts will work well on the knife rods, but I think not on these as they may end up standing too high and would interfere with the bottom of the cylinders. I will take a closer look at that, but I'll probably be back to tapping the parts directly. Fresh taper taps and a not-too-deep through hole to minimize the risk, and these partial bits are easier to make than the entire knife rod was, so less of a heartache if one does get buggered, making the prospect less daunting.

The turning work has been completed on all four. The block head part will become the little end, while the thin platforms are the part to be tapped and the bronze big ends will be attached to.

Now its on to using the RT to round off the little ends.

Only one left to do before I move on to the next step, but it was getting kinda hot this afternoon so I quit early.

Work has been continuing apace (where apace is synonymous with slowly) on the “fork” rods. The steel uppers are done, and I finished the second of the bronze lowers this afternoon, which gives me enough parts to reproduce the exploded rendering from the factory literature. Two more bronzies left to do, maybe three if I decide I'm not satisfied enough with the first, practice one.

Mike - The grid squares are 1/2" (1.27cm). The pin-pin rod length is 1.5" (3.81cm).

After seemingly endless delays, interruptions, mistakes, and lazy days off, I've finally completed the full set of connecting rods. Here's a family shot (those are 1" markings on the ruler) and a few process shots of work on the bronze big ends.

After they were reamed to 0.3125” on the mill, they were parted off the bar and the two halves clamped to a just slightly over-size bit of rod, mounted in a collet on the lathe, and the OD finish  turned to 0.374” to form the journal for the knife rod. I never did take a photo of this last step.
