Hi Mike. Yes, that is the reason I initially considered the double 4 cylinder option. But when George showed that an 8 cylinder distributor can be made that works successfully with a cap diameter, as he states, of only 1.06" (27mm) I decided that is at least worth a try. The distributor/magnetos in the rendering are based on that dimension, which also works well visually. The 2 x 4 option remains on the table as Plan B.

Hi Ron
Great draft you did.
That looks a lot like a 1905 Premier. Great engine and my dream engine since I`ve seen it in Apfelbecks book many moons ago
No crankcase, just a crankshaft spinning in all its glory.
And a mechanic on board busy lubricating everything.

I did consider some other SOHC engines as project ideas, the only one of which progressed very far as a 3D model is this one. I'll leave you or anyone else to guess at its prototype:

DING DING DING - 1905 Premier is indeed correct. Well done! :cartwheel:

A family member had a sudden medical emergency that pulled us away from home for a few weeks to provide help and support. With the recovery well under way, we were able to head home, getting here Tuesday.
After spending a day decompressing and catching up on “necessities”, I finally made it out to the shop today. Where I proceeded to stare at my project for a while, trying to remember where I left off and what I need to do next. Which was to finish up “phase 2b”, the machining of the valve guide and valve seat bores in the second cylinder block. The first had gotten done just before we had to leave.
The 0.4” deep bores for the valve guides were done using a 5/16” end mill, to give a flat bottom. Then a simple shop made drill bushing was used to ensure that the smaller bore that ends at the valve seat will be as concentric as possible.
