GMES 2024
« on: June 26, 2024, 05:22:41 PM »
The Guildford club will be holding their annual "Steam Gala" on 6th & 7th July. Mike Coles, Mike Tull and I are planning on display our models at this show. If anyone is in the area please come and say hello and you will be able to see our models - entry is free  ;).

Sadly this will be the last Guildford show where all three of us will be displaying our models.  :-\

I will try to pop along and say Hi.

Are the three musketeers going to be there both days or just the one? Saturday maybe.

Looks like Polly Wobbles will be attending the Guildford show as well as Helen and her rather good tool stand  :)

Best raid the piggy back in that case, that's if you leave any early bird bargains :(

You'll just have to get there early so you can be first to the bargains  ::)

Looks like it is going to be a bit damp first thing at the show :toilet_claw: Best wait until after all the bargains have gone before turning up Jason  :naughty:

I take it you and Mike are going then. Forcast looks OK, just got to be there before the elephants turn the grass to mud.

Hissing it down here at the moment, good conditions for a few donuts on the cricket field with the Scooby :cartwheel:

We enjoyed seeing everyone at the show but sadly I think the weather and something called a "football match"  :headscratch: kept the numbers down. I only took a few photos and the camera is still hiding from me.

Yes, a great day out, meeting old friends and making some new friends.     Back home now and paying for the exertion.

As Jo said, a poor turn out of visitors but there were two or three who spent most of the afternoon with us. Much nicer to talk to people who are interested in what we do, rather than mum and dad and the kids starring blankly, while you try to explain something.

Weather could have been kinder with rain showers all day. But we were dry and cosy in Mike Cole's tent.

Sadly this will be the last Guildford show where all three of us will be displaying our models.  :-\
Jo

It would be nice to think we could do it one last time, next year.      :old:

Mike Coles spent most of the day running his BR2:

He will be there again today running

As usual I forgot to take a pic of our table  :old: I had taken along my rather large Stothert and Pitt Beam engine complete with detailed build log, Ericson Hot air engine, the Coles C602 large horizontal engine, Halls Rotary, AHC Diesel, Kiwi, Stentor and Crosskill. The casting set I had taken with me did not come back  Mike Tull had his Mercedes engine and his 1/4 scale Bristol Mercury radial engine. Mike Coles had his Scorpion, Chenery Vee Twin (running), Gnome (running), Bentley BR2 (Running) and his sin bin of parts that "never made it to the engine"  ::) Lets be honest other than our table there was only Keith's engines

Where it kept tipping down even Keith kept most of his engines in his van to protect them  :-\

While I have woken up very tired the great thing about going to shows is you come back with lots of enthusiasm to make swarf  ;D

It's a pity we did not capture that once in a millennium moment when you parted with a set of castings on camera for posterity.

If there's one thing Jo likes more than castings, it is new crisp notes :LittleDevil:

Good to see you all and come away with a very nice box, contents of which I may be able to do something with ;)

Thanks for putting up the photos of the models and the event, Jo.  For those able to attend and to view knowledgably, there was much to enjoy, I'm sure.  But the wider views of the field and attendance seem strange when one remembers the packed arena and throng of trade stands and their punters of the Guildford show hey-day. Great to see a couple of ‘ proper ‘ engines on display there Jo. The Stuart 800 looks just right with a great patina. And one of my Robinson X types to boot. Did you get a glimpse of its number? Could do a spot of dating….

   Graham.

I've posted the number before on one of the other Guildford show threads.
