okay good to know !

so i am now done with the lapping and it went vbery well. i removed about 35 Microns , maybe 40 Microns, i cant measure so accurate but my Bore mic shows the same value on all spots of the bore .

i used a 5 Micron Slurry i made .

it consisted of

Ether , Oil, % Micron Diaomond Lapping Paste, well mixed

in between i clesaned and charged the lap with a gound piece of steel. i will ad as few pictures later

Your plan is to run cast iron rings?

Dave

yes

Cast iron rings. From my experience , as soon u install those rings u get a scratched surface anyway ( i am talking micro scratches )

i maybe will crosshatch my bore now with a Hone, i will ask in a car shop if they have such small cylindrical hones . i was told at that size a crosshatch pattern doesnt realy matter. Heinz Kornmüller never lapped his bore and it had a mirror finish just from running the piston rings in this cold drawn tube i believe . i believe he said a mirorish finish is okay

Above you can See the bore before Lapping ,it was Just a cold drawn hydraulic tube. The Bore was already very good at that Point ,only the Marks from the cold Drawing process where visible but in Terms of roundness i was very Happy with IT the way i Received it from Bengs in Germany.

Heinz Kornmüller mentioned to me that He used those tubes Out of the Box ,and they never failed.

After the Lapping i squirt some ethanole Drops in the bore and Made the Second Pic . U can See the Mirror Finish .

I am very Happy with the Result.

Overall 40 microns where removed, and the bore has No taper in it . ( Measured with Mitutoyo 20-25mm three Point bore mic

Can you elaborate on your lap? I've only ever seen 2 kinds for internal lapping. 1) a barrel lap like Acro (picture) where the lap OD expands in the middle (like a barrel). 2) where the lap expands as it is displaced up a tapered arbor (various geometry of expansion slits). Unless I missed it, your lap has no slits?

Ramon (Tug) made a very good guide on how to make a lap for Cylinder work on a CI (Diesel) Engine here on site  :praise2:

Honestly, I really wanted to make my lap as described in Raymond's articles, but I had already started before I found the article! In the end, I am still pleased with my results. I couldn't measure any deviation or errors in the bore. Next time, I will definitely make my lap following the article's guidance.

Hello Everyone,

Here's a brief Summer Update:

I've begun working on the castings.

The intake casting and the base casting are displayed here with the governor mechanism mounted for testing purposes. After making some minor adjustments and with assistance from our fellow member Dave , I managed to get everything beautifully sorted out.

 :ChineseBow:

Thanks Guys,

Next component should be the Exhaust casting and then i can finaly move on to the Upper bearing Carrier and the Craankshaft ...it will still take me some time with my tiny machines. But i try to keep the Quality up, so I rather have a long lasting build than a crappy looking one
