steam show near Berlin
« on: May 02, 2024, 06:59:32 PM »
Tomorrow I'm going to a steam show north of Berlin.
This show is taking place again after 6 years and was always very well attended. It takes place on the site of a former brick factory. I hope it will be as beautiful as it once was. I have a few more pictures here from my last visit in 2014.

Enjoy! Take lots of pictures!

And some close ups of the steam bikes, if they are there again

We arrived safely after a good 2.5 hours. My father and I have set up our tent and I have already walked around the site and there is a little to see. It doesn't start until tomorrow. My neighbor built a model of a bucket crawler excavator. There are also other interesting things to see. A steam ram has been standing here for 30 years. All doors and hatches are closed but if you hold your cell phone through a narrow slot you can see the interior of the steam ram.

The area where the show takes place was a former brick factory. With ring ovens for the bricks. The factory operated until 1990 and now everything is a museum. Almost all of the bricks were built in Berlin. You can get to Berlin's city center via canals. There must have been many, many millions of stones. A narrow-gauge railway runs on the site. With diesel locomotive or steam locomotive.

Yes Kim, I hope it's a nice weekend and I'm glad that my father, at 81 years old, is still doing it.

Here's another suggestion for Roger. He could install his Junkers engine in a Feldbahn locomotive.

And I knew that Fowler had a company in my hometown, but I had never actually seen a tractor.

Greetings Michael

If there is that Fowler tractor nearby, you may need to do a model of it!

I have some old Marion catalogs of the gold mining dredges they did with bucket lines like that model has. I've never seen a drag line like that with the three rails underneath plus the rails for the ore cars, there is a LOT going on in that video!  On the gold dredges, the buckets went in the other direction to lift up dirt/rocks out at the end under the water, and lifted them up onto the boom, back into the dredge where they were dumped into a trommel barrel for washing before putting the gold/dirt through a set of riffles to separate the gold. Lots of different variation on that type of machine!
Great show, thanks for the pictures/videos!

Today we're steaming.
I have my "Dörfel", "the Sachsenberg" and an oscillating steam engine with me.

Greetings Michael

The weather was great yesterday. But there are a lot of mosquitoes here that annoy us.
I have a video of the large steam engine that powered the factory. And a video of the engines and models. Unfortunately, there are always fewer exhibitors. Only a few young people left.

Michael, I enjoyed those video's it looks a great place to have a steam festival, thanks for showing them.
I was in Berlin 1957/59 doing my army service there was some steam powered craft on the river Havel in those days, and by the way I also remember the mosquitoes a real pain.

Finally today I have my Stuart No. 1 connected to the boiler. After over 10 years I am still convinced that it is perfect.
