... inlet manifolds and exhaust pipes, also. There is a strange lay out with a M10 nut clamping a tube into the head.

You may not have these same issues on the V12 but I struggled a bit on the O5 head prototypes. Prototype is my fancy word for scrap pile haha. FWIW link to some pictures of my tubing bending, trumpet bending, ports & coupler nuts... The ports were quite shallow & threads have only partial contact due to fins & maybe complicated if the entry axis is non radial. I ended up widening the head but I don't want to detract your post any more with this story. But I did incorporate a Teflon washer between the tube face & counterbore which I feel is very useful to seal & vibration & thermal expansion etc. But the washer also comes at the expense of using precious remaining space in those shallow depth ports. Good luck, It looking amazing!

I have to catch up with your build report there from last year.
I have been at this time very busy with my Dakar Classic project and missed the details completely.

Hi everybody, some more CAD work done.
Specialty what will be needed for the CAM and machining preparation.
The rockers should be made from "Rounded Machine Keys" 8x7x32 mm.

Hi Chris, good to know that you are following allong too.
As you do it also, I have used the 3D printer again for sample/dummy parts.
He has made one 1-6 and one 7-12 cylinder head yesterday evening.
With d=37 mm it is really tiny.
Cooling fins are 1,3 and 1,4 mm thick.

Hi Achim
I'm following along and thoroughly enjoying not just your model, but your cad work and 3D protos as well.

Hi John, thanks.
Good to know you like it and are following along.

Back to the real stuff.
Swarf again.
Long time ago, that I have cut steel at the lathe.
Immediately my smoke detector recognized the steam from the cutting oil and I had to climb to the ceiling.

An interesting thought using keys as the raw material for the rockers  I make mine from a length of key steel.
Best regards

Was for me a new idea also, recommended by the designer of the V12.

Progress with the web work.
Pushed by one of the last postings from Chris, where he has his chuck stop in use, I have sit down for a minute at the CAD and made a suitable stop for my 3 jaw chuck also.
Specially to grab the 7 mm thin discs here after flipping it over to make a champfer at the other side.
I have been surprised by the achieved accuracy.
I could measure 0,01 mm run out only, if the part was pressed a little against the stop during tightening.
At the end of the day I have 7 matched pairs know, 6 will be minimum needed.

Those chuck stops (we call them 'spiders' since they resemble a web) are very useful items. I drew up version sof them for both my 3 and 4 jaw chucks, and printed a variety of thicknesses of them for different jobs. On one side I recessed the center section to allow drills and boring bars to come through a little ways without hitting the spiders.
Watching along!

Further steps with the crankshaft webs.
The in reply#112 already mentioned fixture was used for the set up of this hole drilling.
A single disc was used to check the drilling and reaming process again.
First a spot drilling by a 5 mm NC drill bit, followed by a 5,7 mm drilling through both parts.
At the end a 5,98 mm reamer to finish it.
The measurement has shown a 5,98? mm hole, so it should be fine for the press fit now.
All matched pairs are done the same way now.
Next step will be outer contour, her the next fixture already prepared, it should be done with the CNC mill again.
Kind Regards

Hello Achim,

Some nice work on the crank webs.

I see you are using Jokisch Monos Miko in your MQL lube system. It looks like you may have diluted the Jokisch fluid with some other fluid or do you use it undiluted?

Hi Mike, thanks.

I do use the Jokisch undiluted.
It is decanted here into a glass bottle, because sometimes the plastic bottles are not the best choice to store it longer.
If Jokisch gets in contact with air, it starts to change colour by some time.
After a longer time the dirty green will change into a brown colour also, as shown in the picture below.
Perhaps it is related to the species of the camelions.  8)
Also light seems to have an influence. The front side was green the back blue.
The same bottle a bit shaken is blue again.

Achim,
I am enjoying the progress and seeing your setups. I assume you're doing the crank webs in matching pairs. Keep up the good work!
