My target here was, no long and complicated adjustment.
So the relevant fin, where the conical shape started was marked red.
The lower fins have been shorten first as short as possible with the cutting insert and its holder.
Than by some further small adjustment steps I was very quick close to the marked fin already.
Scratching the red color slightly and give it another 0,1 mm infeed was the basic for the final smoothing.
Deburring with a small  file and some polishing followed after that.
Next operation will be on the CNC mill again.
Kind Regards
Achim

That is looking amazing, a LOT of work!

Hi Chris, thanks.
14 cylinders and pistons is a kind of horror, but min 24 (28) rocker, valves and spring retainer .... surely a nightmare.

Those are very nice looking, Achim!
12x of everything (or 24x or 28x, as the case may be) is a LOT of work!  But seeing all those cylinders set out like that sure looks great!

I could swear, there was a posting from Mike yesterday here, showing the bunch of pistons he has made for his Bristol project and other parts.
My first thought was, how lucky I am, that I have started only one engine of this V12.
Today the post is disappeared or may be I am getting older and can not split dream and reality anymore.
Kind Regards

4th set up of the cylinders.
The, at the lathe already used, arbor was modified a bit, to get it up right into the vice on the CNC mill.
All machining is done already by the hard-working computer.
Next to do, preparing set up #5, to flip it over and making the hole pattern for the heads.

That's a very nice fleet of cylinders, Achim!

Yes, I remember that too.  I wonder if Mike chose to remove that post himself or something?  But yes, it was there, I read it too, and it WAS here, you're not imaging things. Or at least, not imagining it on your own!

Hello Achim,

Ha ha! you were not mistaken, It was there yesterday.     ::)

I posted it so you could see how lucky you were to have only 12 cylinders and two valves per cylinder     :stir: :stir:

Then I took the post down today, because I did not want to detract from your excellent build log.         :praise2: :praise2: :praise2:

Prost

Coming along nicely! What is your plan for the liner + cylinder marriage? ie. a slight shrink fit between the two & final liner ID lapping in-situ? Or a conscious effort to make the liner removable/replaceable from the cylinder? I have come to my own conclusions on this subject (option #1) but wanted to hear your thoughts.

Hi Mike,
surely no detraction.
May be we can encourage others, by showing  our ways, to do the same.

Hi Peter, I am undetermined still.
Removable is not the right way in my opinion.
A fit with 0,02 mm interference, like in the drawings may be a bit to much.
So far my strategy is very low interference and a final honing with the liner in situ.
Perhaps it make sense, to heat up the cylinder a bit and let spent the liners a night in the deep freezer.
Kind Regards
Achim

Hi Michael,
thanks for watching and friendly comment.

In think for beer in combination with soft drinks are no limits here in Bavaria.
Mostly forced by the "don´t drink and drive " regulations also.
Some years ago, you have got beer without alcohol by a bottle served only and all the others from a barrel via the tap.
In the meantime it is more and more vice versa.
Kind Regards
Achim

Great progress

CNC also shines here - when you have to cut four sides and 'Drill' four holes to exact same Dimension on All 14 Cylinders  :)

Excellent  :praise2:  :praise2: CNC certainly comes in handy for multi cylinder engines  I will have to move in that direction one day
Best regards

Roger
