I've not seen many of these built and it looks quite different from my other models so I have made a start.  What do you think?

Video is not public so can't see it

I've only seen a couple of them made, one was Anthony's original and one a smaller version. They are a bit different to the usual layout

Looks like fun.  What's in the drum underneath?

The drum hides the flywheel which is a bit of a shame as it would look good on view

The video comes up fine now, interesting to see how you are reducing the size to make it manageable for machine capacity.  Does the designer mention whether the large flywheel that is hidden away was a feature of the original engine?  Presume that the large circular base was intended to house something like that, as the two top pulleys would not have enough flywheel effect.  Depending on your wish for historical accuracy, I do also wonder if some way of showing off the big flywheel a bit more might be quite interesting as a feature.  Dave

Engraving of original, interestingly Whitmore & sons, not sure when names changed but may have something on Graces

https://catalogue.millsarchive.org/steam-engine-advertisement-3

looks like Binyon was after sons

Regarding the flywheel in the drum there are a couple of observation holes but not one where the Barring gear engages near the cylinder so I have put one there in anticipation that I might actually get that far. The steering wheel at the end  engages with a rack cut into the edge of the fly wheel, not worked out how to do that yet but you could always use a rubber wheel against the rim.
The engraving shows some useful detail and the work that it did. There are some great pictures in the Station road steam archive.
I have included a page of introduction showing History of the company.

I do NOT see any video in the posts - just two pictures in the first post - a click will size up and down ...

So where do you see those ...?

Hi,

Fascinating looking engine. Anyone know where I might obtain a set of plans? Would like to see if this could be made from barstock.

Geoff is making his from Barstock as it is smaller than the casting kit.

Polly Engineering sell drawings or you could buy the back issues of the magazine it was published in "Engineering in Miniature"
