Fingers crossed wishing that you find the rest of the problems + their fix, just as easily - resulting in an easy starter and good runner soon Ron

Thanks CNR! Since I don't play drums or smoke cigars, I guess I'll just have to get this engine running.

Ron

Ron,
I think there is enough of us here to do a drum roll...

Graceful recovery.
What one way bearing did you use? How did you adapt it? I've been thinking about one but couldn't choose one on McMaster Carr.
Best wished for you on getting it running.

Hi Art. I surely do appreciate that thought, but at the rate I'm going that drum roll may roll on long enough to start annoying the neighbors! :)

Thank you, dwulfe.
This is the one-way bearing I used: https://www.mcmaster.com/2489K23/
The driver dog was originally solid with a 1/2” OD spud for chucking in the drill. I bored it out for a press fit on the OD of the bearing, which also removed the spud. A 3/8” rod is now chucked in the drill, and the driver slips on over that. It grabs very well, but in the “free” direction spins very easily, so it should offer little resistance to even a weakly starting engine.

Regards,
Ron

Dunno why I didn't see the updates until now, I just caught up to this thread.  Cool to hear the spark plugs are built up, and love the size comparison to a standard-ish NGK plug.  I do recall you talking about valve lift, and now the problem is clear, and your fix seems good.  Hope to see a vroom-vroom video soon!
