Looks like I misinterpreted the drawings. There is a diameter reduction on the shaft to fit the web, but the shaft itself is assumed to be the diameter of the bearing (8mm).

  I received my copy of your very informative and well written book last week and have enjoyed reading it. Now to gather materials and do the building.

Just checked my master drawings and the mistake is mine not the printers the crankshaft dimensions were missed off both the vertical and grasshopper engines I hope it hasn't caused too much confusion but thankfully you can deduce the size from other parts.

If anyone spots any other errors I'd be very grateful if you let me know.
