Was it a problem soldering the pipes in place? There must have been a lot of heat loss to the cylinders. I think when Achim (Fumopuc) soldered the pipes on his Snow engine he used thin wire as a spacer to reduce the heat flow.

Hi , R,  I was worried about that and on the longer curved copper pipe I soft soldier it away from the cylinder block and then soldered the square connecting block in place whilst in position on the engine. I did slacken the bolts on the flange to prevent heat transfer ... and this worked very well . I think the large square brass block helped to keep the heat in that vicinity  ?/ so  worked rally we'll and no problem or difficulty  !!. I am quite aware of various problems associated with engine building but when it comes to doing things ..everything seems to work !!  which is how all these fine working models get made ....
cheers .. just a quick question ...are there tables available to calculate how large the steam pipes need to be to furnish the cylinders with the adequate amount of steam to run them ??

Hi All I am still working on the engine making all the gaskets and all the correct nuts and bolts ...also I will be painting it. I will be going to the Strumpetshaw Ralley on Saturday  so that should be fun if the weather is fine ...

Hi "Z" ,thanks for the reply and I will be putting a brass plaque on the raised platform .  I have also finished the gaskets using this 1/64th material from EKP supplies ...it is green and black so is good to mark out with a black pen...also I have this clock/watch makers punch to make the holes , it is pointed so it can be accurately aligned ..Also a nifty USA screwdriver for holding the 7BA screws to enable them to be position for inserting into the holes without dropping them on the floor !!

More work on the engine ...lots of cleaning up , gasket fitting on painting.  I have been using Sable haired brushes .. this are quite expensive but they do last a long time ...they are quite soft and are made locally just up the road in Lowestoft ......still more to do for final cleanup and tidying up the steam connections..Also much work to do in the allotment.  also I will be going to the Midland exhibition on the Saturday and will help out on the stall but as Norwich club transport docent get there till about 11 am I won't be able to bring any models   however I have lots of room in my bag for small tool items ?!!!!  so it will be good to see some of our members !!

I have attached the steam pipes and did this with the unpainted and ungasketed model .....however when I attached the 2 X  1/64th gaskets the fitting of the steam pipes was quite difficult as the steam chest are now 1/32nd apart  ?!! this will be sorted hopefully ...

In the pictures with paint, looks like the only screws holding the frames to the base are on the outer sides, that tilting them some?

Hi "C"  yes , well spotted, there were only 4 screws screws on the standards but there were also 4 pins holding them in the correct positions , one for each leg  so this should have secured them in position .and the screws were placed diagonal across the standards so I thought these should temporarily be OK , Thanks for the observation and I will think a bit more about this , also the cylinders will be touching each other and the painted pics were just placed on the base plate for the latest photos ...

The pins will locate the 'Feet' - but not completely prevent a slight angle above them ....

Hello Willy,
the finish of the green color looks good.
The fact that the holes for the pipe are now a little further apart is of course annoying. But the copper pipe is soldered in with soft solder. It looks like this. Maybe you can heat the pipe again in one place and you'll gain half a millimeter.

Hi Michael thanks for the advice and I do need to add .79 mm as the gaskets have gained  1.32"  !! but yes applying heat will work  Thanks
