Stroke of luck.
« on: November 02, 2023, 10:49:17 PM »
The photo shows one of my (empty) compost bins that had been blown by the recent high winds from the side of my shed to land in the area of my gazebo 40 feet away. How it missed the large plant pots cemented to the fragile capping stones I will never know.

That must have been a bit of wind you had!

Glad nothing seemed to get seriously damaged  :)

I believe the high winds were given the name 'Ciaran'. I drove to Truro yesterday and the roads in places looked as though they were made with leaves. A few trees had been blown down, but only one fence panel that I could see.
I hope everyone is safe.

Fortunately I know where Truro is; been there in fact.  But many don't. You might want to put a general location under your screen-name as others do.  Cornwall would be enough since most civilized people know where Doc Martin resides.

I wish I could get away with using our gazebo for storage. :-)

I have been to Truro but who is Doc Martin? A single boot?

There is no such thing as a stupid question.

Hi Marv, I have updated my profile. I hope.
My gazebo has a small aluminium scaffold and the moulds for making an Austin 7 Ulster body in fibreglass. I think there might be something living in there too.

Thanks for taking the time to do that.  Now when you write about local stuff, it will be easy for us to have an idea of local conditions.  Also, should you ask for places to purchase something, having your location there will avoid receiving recommendations for places on other continents.

For the benefit of the folks who don't know about Doc Martin...

Doc Martin is a British medical comedy-drama television series starring Martin Clunes as Doctor Martin Ellingham.  The program is set in the fictional seaside village of Portwenn and filmed on location in the village of Port Isaac, Cornwall, UK.  In the series the Doc often sends seriously ill patients to the hospital in Truro.

Truro is also mentioned in several other British stories, TV Shows, and movies.

Doc Martin is one of My and my wife's favorite British programs  and we watch on our local PBS network. Doc himself is a brilliant surgeon and diagnostician, but has almost zero human-relations skills. He was forced to become a small-town GP in a coastal village full of other memorable eccentric characters. You can look up more if you're interested in that kind of program.

There are other towns called Truro in North America: One is a few miles down the road from where I live (Truro, Iowa, USA.) Evidently people like the name. (You can look them up, too.)

For us ignorant US citizens who are geographically challenged we found it helpful to find and print a map of the UK counties and regions to place ourselves near the locations mentioned in stories and programs.

After locating Cornwall we needed to sort out "all the Yorkshires" and then find Northumberland.
