Hi from Brentwood Essex UK
« on: May 29, 2023, 09:24:10 PM »
Hi

My name is Sanjay an I have had a interest in mechanical engineering since I was a young man (not so young now!). At the start of the pandemic I finally committed and cleared out the garage and bought a small lathe and mill from eBay and began a Stuart 10v. After many hours of pouring over videos, talking to some great people online and producing a lot of scrap metal I eventually finshed my 1st engine.

I then jumped straight into building a Stuart no.9 which I have just completed with a governor, water pump, dynamo and lamp (see attached). I am very fortunate having a local steam museum called The Museum of Power (http://www.museumofpower.org.uk/). Regular visits here gave me the inspiration for some modifications from the original design based on actual engines. This build was a fair bit trickier, but an enjoyable and an educational journey all the same.

I still very much consider myself a beginner and have a lot to learn and appreciate being able to access the wealth of knowledge on this forum

Many thanks and best wishes to you all

Hi Sanjay!
Welcome to the forum!

That's a lovely engine you have built there!  And I really like the generator and lamp that you have for a load on the engine.  Very nice!

Hello Sanjay, your No 9 engine looks very handsome, well displayed on its base, one of the nicest of the Stuart engines I tend to think.  Be interested to see any pictures of the No 10, another classic Stuart design.  Are you going to build another Stuart, or a different project now?   Dave

Hello and welcome here.
The machine looks very good. I like the manual valve and the flange connection. This makes the model very realistic.

Thanks, you are all so very kind

I have attached a picture of my Stuart 10v and my next adventure is a Halls Rotary Engine which is a very interesting design; it reminds me of of an early Wankel engine. I am puzzling over the drawings and castings at the moment and have concluded, as the famous phrase goes, 'I think we're going to need a bigger lathe'  :)

Thanks for putting up the photo of the attractive No 10 engine, building a 10V is an excellent introduction to model engineering and involves many machining processes.  Classic way of getting well into the hobby!  Dave
