A “ cracking “ April fool ??
« on: April 03, 2023, 11:15:36 AM »
A friend of mine sent me this link, this morning. As MEM seems to be mainly Steam engine oriented I thought you might enjoy the video.

A piston return spring is secretly built into it. ;D

What size batteries does it use?

Things to puzzle over...

unusual thickness of base
silver-colored "access plate" on end of base under cylinder
no visual of flywheel side of engine

I think Marv has it - either a little motor wheel on the flywheel out the back of the base, or something pushing/pulling on the crosshead from underneath.

How to make engineers brains go into perpetual thinking? Throw them a perpetual motion video like this!

We have been discussing it on ME forum, the black areas below the valves seem to be there to hide something and as Marv says the base board is raised above the bench all of which suggests hidden plumbing

There may be no piston or valve in the model. Not needed for this show.

The entire system would build to the same air pressure quite quickly, as soon as the valve moved, so the engine would not even start if the plumbing was configured as shown.

That's what I was thinking, Gene. It wouldn't even start because there's no pressure difference.

I don't know what trick he used, but it's a pretty slick video for sure

Enough material there to last for 4 decades of April Fools' Days.

Wow - that guy sure spent a lot of time dreaming up and building all those models - wonder if he got 'investors' for each one...  :LittleDevil:

I'm always amaze at the amount of people the believe these things. As I tell friends regularly perpetual motion on earth is a pipedream but they keep trying to convince me it exists. Up there with flat earthers.
I used to have a friend.....but the rope broke and he ran away :(....Good news everybody I have another friend...I used chain this time :)

... As I tell friends regularly perpetual motion on earth is a pipedream but they keep trying to convince me it exists. ...

You have to give them a convincing argument...

In the 4.5 billion years that the earth has existed, probability dictates that, if PM existed, there would be innumerable cases of its accidental evolution in the physical world.  We would be surrounded by countless stuff perpetually jumping, turning and banging.  The very fact that you can find a quiet spot to take a nap is living proof that PM can't exist.

Well, maybe not convincing, but contorted enough to shut them up long enough for you to escape their attention.

Yeah, that can be loud!  We have flickers out here that love to bang on your gutters because it makes such a nice loud sound.  Apparently, it's a good way to attract mates (if you're looking for a lady flicker for a mate, that is ).

Sampson boat works had a great one about installing a front door in the hull of Tally Ho.      Ian McCaulum did a masterly job on convincing everyone that the Vikings Invented gunpowder and the  first firearms....like it was impressive!

It’s called double exposure people. One  video has the air line connected the other video  doesn’t they are both overlapped to give the elusion that tt is running on its own.

The best April fool I saw was when the BBC got a manky old sundial from B&Q (other sheds also sell sundials) and pretended it was a centuries old Greek navigation aid! Classic. I fell for it.

A lable on a piece of plumbing that calls it a 1-way valve doesn't really make it a one-way valve.
