Greene steam engine
« on: March 01, 2023, 10:23:38 AM »
I decided to build a rival machine of the same size to the Corliss. The drawings are almost done....I just have to draw it on the individual parts.....

Great design interesting position of the flyball governor attached to the steam piping and not the frame
There are two that i've seen locally, one at the New England Wireless & Steam Museum in Rhode Island and one at The Connecticut Antique Machinery Association. Have you done any of the steam chest design yet looking for how you are going to porting of the intake and exhaust
Good job on the drawings

Thank you for posting your work, I am a big fan of the Green Improved automatic cut off engines and will be following your progress.  The Green engine is a complicated engine but well worth the effort to model.  Did you know that Nathan Green actually worked for George Corliss for a short time when Nathan began his engineering career?

Your foundation design is excellent, very much like a real engine would be installed, however I have not seen anyone reproduce it for a model.  A great approach.

Can you give us some more information on the drawings you used for reference when you made your drawings?  Is this a model of an existing engine?

Denis, thank you for your support.
I am sending photos from which I took inspiration. Yes I know about Corliss, I used to build a model. With Corliss, the Greenee engine was on trial

The steam engine looks good! And the floor too.

What I always wanted to ask you was, did you ever show your models at the model steam engine exhibition in Austria (Doppel Mühle) at Alois?

Hi, yes I have been to Austria twice n Dampf Austria. I asked Alois about further participation, but he wrote to me that everything is cancelled, that's wrong. This year I will probably only exhibit in the Czech Republic.....I don't know where beyond the border.  Pavel

Hello Pavel,

Yes, Alois doesn't do model shows anymore.
But there will be a new venue this year. In Tulln on the Danube. This is near Vienna. Maybe not that far from you. But way too far for me.

Hello,

I'm sorry that I usually don't write anything about pictures. My English is not perfect. After a long time, I am finishing the main part of the steam engine, which will be lined with wood on three sides. That's why there are milled spaces. After that, he will do the lower and upper distributions. I'm curious how everything will work according to my drawings.

Hi Pavel,
that looks fantastic.
The entire style is Pavel pure.
Do you have a new workshop ?
I am very curious, too, specially if the wooden cover around the cylinder unit will be finished.

Kind Regards

Hello,
thank you, I don't have a new workshop, it's just getting smaller there.....I'm looking forward to the wood paneling, maybe plum or other colored wood...mini boards. I plan to chemically blacken the entire machine and then oil it, similar to the guns. Brass accessories will then decorate it nicely.

Thanks for the diagrams. I was enquiring as to whether the dash pots 0 and O1 in the last diagram, brass cylinders on your model, do they actually work. That is, do they cushion the gear  at this scale and do you think they would be effective at smaller scales. Regards, Paul Gough.

Dash pots also draw down on the rod so its not just gravity at work, as I understand it.  Could be wrong on that though.

on this small scale I used springs, gravity would be small and ineffective

Hello everyone,
it’s been a while since I last posted anything here. So to make up for it, I’m sharing a link to a new video.
I’ve now managed to finish the electrical part. What’s left is to complete the hand pump and the firebox, and after that I’ll be able to start testing the model on live steam….  Pavel
